DENKLAU PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR WORKING IOWANS AFFECTED BY CLOSING OF JOHN MORRELL PLANT

Council Bluffs, IA – April 20, 2010 – Mike Denklau, who is running to unseat Republican Representative Steve King in Iowa's 5th Congressional District, will be in Sioux City on Wednesday to show his support for workers affected by the closing of a local pork processing plant.

In January, Smithfield Foods announced plans to close its Sioux City John Morrell & Co. pork plant in mid-April. The plant employed 1,450 workers, and its closing puts scores of other local jobs dependent on the plant at risk.

Said Denklau: "We need a solid long-term plan to aid the Sioux City economy in recovering from this loss, but there are also immediate short-term actions that can be taken. That is why I am taking the opportunity to volunteer at a soup kitchen and hear from workers affected by this plant closing."

Mike will be at the Sioux City Gospel Mission on April 21st from 11:00-12:30.

Mike Denklau’s campaign urges 5th District Iowans interested in stronger Congressional representation to visit http://www.denklauforcongress.com or call today to join his campaign. Together, western Iowans will make a difference this November.
