MIKE DENKLAU, CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE IN IOWA'S 5TH DISTRICT, CONGRATULATES DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE MATTHEW CAMPBELL
Council Bluffs, IA – June 9, 2010 – Mike Denklau, Democratic candidate for Congress in Iowa’s Fifth District, today congratulates Matthew Campbell on becoming the Democratic nominee for the Fifth District. Denklau acknowledged his disappointment with the outcome, but conveyed confidence in Campbell’s vision for the district. "My supporters and I climbed a great mountain during this campaign, but we fell a bit short of the summit. While I hoped for a different outcome, I thank the voters of Iowa for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this race, and I look forward to helping Matt Campbell succeed in November," said Denklau. "I greatly admire the vision of our Democratic nominee, and I am confident that he has the knowledge and foresight to lead Iowa’s Fifth District to its brightest days."
"I am grateful to all of those who stood with me in this race," said Denklau. "Thanks to you, we accomplished much during this campaign. We received three major endorsements, collected nearly 2,000 ballot signatures which was 60% more than required, and we helped to build the next generation of Democratic activists by engaging young voters. Our campaign also raised over $35,000 from more than 230 individuals. You should be proud of what your support helped us accomplish, and I greatly appreciate all that you have done."
Denklau continued by saying, "I know many of you feel the same disappointment that I do. However, our disappointment must be overcome. It is now time for us to turn our attention to the general election and electing Matt Campbell in November. From the beginning, my campaign was about more than me—it was about bringing effective representation to western Iowa by retiring Steve King. That goal does not die today. I am confident that Matt will work for all western Iowans by creating jobs and growing our economy. That is why, today, I endorse Matt Campbell for Congress. Please join me in supporting Matt in his fight to retire Steve King. Together, we will realize our goal of bringing stronger representation to the Fifth District."
